Japan’s retail sales rose 0.5% year-on-year in June 2026, a sharp slowdown from the downwardly revised 5.0% increase in May and well below market expectations of a 3.1% gain. Although this marked the fourth consecutive month of expansion, it was the weakest increase since February, when retail sales fell amid mounting price pressures.
