The value of building plans approved in South Africa rose 16.9% year-on-year to ZAR 8,513.5 million in April 2026, following an upwardly revised 17.2% increase in March. Approvals for non-residential buildings surged 43.5% (up from 3.3%), while residential construction climbed 18% (though slower than the previous 27.3%), together more than offsetting a 2.2% decline in additions and alterations (after a 10.2% rise previously).
